Aug. 21 - Highline Trail

So this was my first hike in Glacier.  And it was the one most talked about and recommended.  And as you see the first part, you will probably see why!  It starts out at Logan Pass and works it way above the road, along a cliff!

 The start.

The lower line is the road.  The upper line is the trail.  The green thing along the trail is garden hose that has a cable inside it.  I guess if, for some reason, you get the urge to hold onto something, the hose makes the wire easier to hang on to.

Again, the main line you see is the road.  You can a little stretch of the trail through a particularly green section.

Here you can see a hiker on the trail.

One of those fun spots where it looks like you will just walk right off the cliff (instead of turning the corner)!

The road and the trail again.  It's such a cool view I just have to show it again!

 Neat rock colors.

This is one of the sections that they refer to as hanging gardens, there are so many flowers growing on the cliff walls.

And here is one of the prettiest flowers - what I'm pretty sure is a blue gentian.  Check out the interesting grey/green? dots on the blue petals!

OK, I have no idea what flower this is!  And I can't seem to find anything on google fitting its description, so we'll call it a CBM, shall we?  A CarrieBearie Mystery flower!

Ain't he cute?  Even if he is missing a nose...  (couldn't get a shot of the whole animal, and I didn't want to just scare him off!)

Looking down on one of the squiggly sections of the road.

You can see the trail here agan - see the line above the rocky area?

Looking back towards Logan Pass and the trailhead.  It's much easier to follow the winding road, but the trail's in the photo somewhere too!

Bear grass.
(Grassus carriebearius)
Some years are much better for bear grass than others, and this was not one of them - or so I was told, and that's what it looked like!  I was happy to just find the few stalks I did!

 Cool trail ledge.

More bear grass.

Not quite as hanging of a garden, but pretty and loaded with flowers nonetheless!

Some kind of lousewort, I think.

That same bit of ledge but going the other way now.

Sunset colors with Reynolds Mtn in the background.

And here we are back to the road & trail photos.  A bit darker this time around though!  And you have to look real close to see those hikers (but they're there!)!

OK, can you see them now?

This was probably an incredible sunset scene at peak color, but I was too late for that.  Nice dusky look though, eh?
