OK, enough of Glacier already! It was wonderful, but now, moving right along! To Waterton!
But wait... Isn't Waterton sort of Glacier still?? Yeeeeaaah, sort of. Yes, technically both parks are referred to as the "Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park." South of the US-Canada border, it's Glacier, and north, it's Waterton. So we're out of Glacier but still in it, so there!?
Entering Canada! This was one of the smaller checkpoints.
Boy, the bug splats on the windshield are sure getting bad! I can hardly see through this one here!!
We knew we were going to love Waterton when we sighted this bear alongside the road first thing!
Any relation to Anthony? Sorry, had to do it... I had to laugh at the name, but we did eat there. Hot dogs were OK, but the sweet potato fries and dipping sauce were super yummy! But it was all way too expensive! (turns out the only reasonably priced food in Waterton might've been at the Prince of Wales Hotel! We didn't eat there, but Bill checked out the menu...)
Once we got established in the park's Waterton Townsite campground, we went out for an afternoon drive (Waterton was only about an hour's drive or so from St. Mary, so we had plenty of time and energy left!). First, we took the Akamina Parkway to Cameron Lake.
Cameron Lake.
Back near the Akamina Pkwy entrance is comparatively pint-sized Linnet Lake with an almost reflection of the Prince of Wales Hotel and Vimy Peak.
Next we went down the Red Rock Parkway.
And...more bears!!!! This perfect black bear momma and her two cubs! I was so wishing I had my long lens on!!! I should've gone ahead and parked in the road, put the long lens on, and gotten out next to the car. I could've gotten better photos. But Bill was in the car, and that didn't happen. This was the best shot I got... I went back a couple of times, later, but no luck. At least we got to see them...
And here's the Red Rock Canyon.
with some visitors.
As we were driving back, Bill noticed the clouds moving in and doing weird things. They were wrapping themselves around the mountaintops. The weather moved in quickly at that point - storm approaching! Yay!
Some of the best light comes with storms!
The best light...and the last light!
