Aug. 19 - Glacier in the afternoon

Bill and I went into the park late in the afternoon.  It was wonderful!  Great lighting, less crowding!
Here's Lake McDonald again, with some kayakers taking advantage of the nice conditions.

I think this is McDonald Creek again, just further up and in shadow now.

Bill posing, with Logan Pass in the background.

The Going to the Sun Road is quite the route all right!  You can see the road starting up down below and the road closing in on the pass at the top (top left, the yellowish streak on the hillside).

This is one of the "exciting" parts of the road for many.  Fairly narrow lanes - a good drop-off (with a short rock wall barrier) on the one side and a rock cliff squeezing in on the other.  But great views!

And there's another one of those tour cars again!

Haystack Falls in the golden light of sunset.

And at the top, at the Logan Pass visitor center, we ran into these friends.  Turns out this parking lot is the hot spot, after hours, for bighorn sheep and mountain goats!  They come to lick off goodies the asphalt!  And they don't much care whether straggler visitors are there then or not.

This mountain goat is licking up some spilled soda or something.

A couple of the big boys...

These rams were full of themselves!  They didn't seem to pose much of a hazard to the onlookers, but beware if you were another ram - OR, if you had a shiny car reflecting one's ram's image to himself!!!  I heard from others that cars ended up rammed and dented up there, and I can only surmise this to be the reason!  (good thing our truck was always so dirty - no reflections possible!)

I loved watching the action.  These guys were real pissy with each other.  You could see that it took no provocation at all!  One would just look up, and bingo!  "That creepy ram is still there?!  Well, I'll show him!"  Bonk!  What great sound effects (unless they're to your car, of course!)!

 Shadow sunset.

Bill and I are pretty partial to the mountain goats.  They're just cuter somehow!
